Republishing

We believe that awareness and education are the keys to building a more sustainable world, so we publish articles under a Creative Commons license, which means that they can be freely republished in print or online, as long as you follow some simple guidelines.

Articles that are published first on EKO Diena are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License. Articles that we have republished from other sources may be published under a slightly difference license, which will be detailed next to the article.

Forum conversations and user comments are not included under the Creative Commons licensing.

Republishing guidelines:

  • You must credit the author as listed on the original article (ideally in the byline), and EKO Diena as the source, and also provide a link back to the specific web address of the article on this website (not the homepage).
  • Our articles are published under the Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-ND 4.0) Creative Commons license. This means that you cannot edit/change the material except to reflect relative changes in time, location, or basic editorial style (for example, “yesterday” can be changed to “last week,” and “Vilnius, Lithuania.” to “Vilnius” or “here”, and “organization” to “organisation”). Mentions of EKO Diena within articles can also be redacted, for example from “The author told EKO Diena” to “The author said.”.
  • If you are republishing online, you must link to the original story and include the original links embedded in the story.
  • Headlines should be rewritten, as doing so works much better for you and for us, otherwise our version and a republisher’s will come up during the same web search.
  • It is okay to put our articles on pages with ads, but you cannot sell our material separately. Similarly, you may not republish EKO Diena articles behind paywalls that require readers to pay in order to view.
  • Translating articles is not covered by this license. If you want to translate one of our articles into an alternative language then please get in contact with us to discuss it by mailing hello@ekodiena.com.
  • Pay attention to photo permissions. If a photo in the original piece is credited as belonging to either EKO Diena or the author of the piece you are republishing, you have permission to use the photo as is, unchanged, with the same caption/credit as used in the original piece. If an image is copyright of another photographer or illustrator and you would like to reproduce it, you will need to contact us or the photographer directly, as some sources don’t allow their images to be republished without permission.
