A couple of weeks ago we wrote about the photo competition for the International Day of Forests, which is just one of a wide range of nature photography competitions out there. These beautiful showcases of nature show us, in case we needed it, why taking care of the world around is so important.

Estonian nature photographer Remo Savisaar has just been awarded the first prize in the 2021 edition of the Feria Internacional de Turismo Ornitológico international birdwatching photo competition.

The Western Capercaillie, star of Remo's winning shot, can be found across the Baltic States, as well in Russia and Belarus to the west, and eastwards across Scandinavia and Scotland.

The 16th edition of the photo competition attracted more than 5,400 entries from 37 countries, which show the amazing diversity of birdlife across the world.

We're going to add the grand winning photo again, in all of it's uncropped glory, together with a few more of our favourite shots from the finalists below. You can see the full selection on the FIO website by clicking here. The page is in Spanish but the photos speak for themselves!
